The Savings Bank of South Australia (SBSA) building was built in the 1890’s as a private residence for Mr J. Rock who also had a saddlery business on site. The SBSA purchased the entire building in 1909 for £1,100 and opened the Quorn branch, when the town was an important northern regional centre.
The SBSA became the State Bank of South Australia and BANK SA branch. Operating as a Bank the fittings and furniture included polished cedar panelling, bank counter edged in brass, an iron foot-rail on the customers side of the counter, and gas was used to light the premises.
In 1997, the Bank was closed, renovated and now provides comfortable holiday accommodation – 3 bedrooms (2 double, one twin), 2 bathrooms, kitchenette, dining, 2 lounge rooms – making it ideal for a family or group of friends.
The SBSA offers visitors a centrally located base from which to explore the Quorn township and also surrounding Flinders Ranges.
